Projects: Northern Arctic - Page 1 | 2

A project at the Kuparuk Oil Field located on the North Slope of Alaska required the installation of expensive instrumentation in boreholes during April. Due to weight restrictions for operating on the tundra, GTA used two of our direct-push machines to accomplish the installation of the instruments in 54 boreholes to depths of 40 ft. below ground surface. This project not only exemplifies the light footprint of the equipment, but also of the versatility of the direct-push machines where both augering and direct-push techniques were used to penetrate into permafrost. This project was successfully completed ahead of schedule and the rapidly encroaching seasonal deadline to be off of the tundra in the Kuparuk Field.

The Scope of Work for this project required the acquisition of soil and groundwater samples in Point Hope, AK. Again, this project used GTA’s capability of advancing probe rod at an angle to acquire the samples beneath an existing structure, and the ability of the direct-push machine to penetrate permafrost layers. Due to the mobility and efficiency of GTA’s equipment, this project was feasible to acquire this data at a remote village in Northwest Alaska.
